KKY language workshop back in May

The Saybaylgaw Yangu Wakay workshop team will be holding a language workshop in Bamaga and Seisia for two weeks from 2 May to 14 May.  

Bamaga Enterprises Ltd (BEL) will be supporting the team, comprising Executive Producer Jeffrey Aniba Waia, producer Andrew Belletty, linguist Jensen Warusam Waigana. 

The team along with Bamaga liaison Beverley Jacobs, are looking forward to working with local communities on this exciting project, which aims to revitalise language speaking with the help of fluent KKY (Saibai language) speakers.  

The team is building a website, dedicated to learning resources for the KKY language, and will be shooting videos and teaching language writing skills.  

Mr Belletty says the goal was to create audio and visual materials for everyone to use to learn KKY, along with the face-to-face annual workshops with communities to create engagement and grow awareness.  

“Everyone is welcome to participate in the teaching and learning so please come along and share in the experience,” Mr Belletty says.  

Mr Belletty and Mr Warusam will be teaching KKY reading and writing skills for anyone interested in learning.  

Reading and Writing KKY sessions in Bamaga/Seisia on May 9th, 10th, 11th May between 2-5pm, with the venue to be announced.
